The John Wick spin-off, Ballerina, is a fun, action-packed ride that largely meets expectations. It boasts a fantastic lead performance, and it’s a genuine thrill to see the original franchise stars reappear alongside compelling new faces. The film’s art design is superb, with a consistent visual motif of snow and ice that beautifully complements the innovative and fiery action sequences—the flamethrower use is a particular highlight.
While the film succeeds in spectacle, the storyline feels a bit too simple, resembling a video game where the overpowered hero is never in real danger. This lack of tension can make the narrative feel flat, as you’re just watching enemies get beaten without any real sense of peril. Furthermore, the sound design, though often powerful and engaging, sometimes feels exaggerated and overwhelming. However, for those seeking a stylish action film, these minor drawbacks don’t detract from the overall enjoyment.
